The rules that govern buying from Saahvi, what “handmade” means for a return, who holds the food licence, and the limits of our liability.

This page ships with a demonstration build. The company address, email addresses and grievance contacts it refers to are placeholders, and a live deployment would print its real details and GSTIN here. The operating rules themselves describe how the marketplace is intended to run.

In short

  • A contract forms when we confirm your order, and the price you confirmed is the one charged.
  • Handmade items vary between batches. That variance is not a defect, and it is not a ground for return.
  • Food is prepared and packed under each group’s own FSSAI licence. Saahvi is the marketplace, not the manufacturer.

Who can buy

You must be 18 or older and have a delivery address in India to place an order. By confirming an order you are making an offer to buy at the price shown. A contract forms when we confirm the order, not when you click pay.

We may decline an order where stock has run out, where a PIN code is not serviceable, or where a price was listed in error. If we decline, we tell you why and refund any amount paid in full, and that refund is your only remedy for the declined order.

Pricing and MRP

  • All prices are in Indian rupees and inclusive of GST. The price you confirm at checkout is the price charged, even if it changes before dispatch.
  • The MRP shown against each product is the maximum retail price declared for that pack, and the saving shown is the difference between that MRP and our price.
  • The group that makes a product sets the retail price it is paid for. Saahvi adds packing, freight and its commission, and keeps nothing that is not shown on the group’s settlement statement.
  • Our commission is 15% of the retail price of each item. It is disclosed to the group on every fortnightly settlement, line by line.
  • Prices, offers and coupon codes can change at any time, but never for an order already confirmed.

Handmade variance

Every product on this site is made by hand, in batches, by people rather than machines. Colour, weave, glaze, embroidery, weight and finish vary slightly from piece to piece and from batch to batch. Photographs show a representative item from the batch, not the exact unit you will receive.

That variance is the point of buying handmade, and it is not a defect and is not a ground for return. What is a ground for return is an item that is materially different from its listing: the wrong product, the wrong size, a different craft, spoiled contents or a broken seal. The returns policy covers those, and it applies in full.

Where a net quantity is printed on the label, that is the quantity guaranteed. The gross weight of a packed jar can vary a little with the density of the batch, and that is not a short weight.

Food, licences and allergens

Every food product is prepared and packed under the manufacturing group’s own FSSAI licence. The licence number is printed on the label and shown on the product page. Saahvi is the marketplace through which the group sells; it is not the manufacturer of the food.

Shelf life is stated on the label and repeated on the product page, and the care note on each listing explains how the item should be stored. A jar of pickle that sits in a warm kitchen will not keep for the period on its label.

The groups work in village kitchens, and those kitchens are not allergen-free facilities. They routinely work with mustard, sesame, groundnut and wheat. If you have a serious allergy, write to us before you order and we will tell you exactly what the group handles in the kitchen your product comes from, so you can decide with the facts in front of you.

Selling on Saahvi, in brief

Groups list on Saahvi at no cost. There is no joining fee and no exclusivity: a group may sell at its own unit, at a mandi, at a government fair and to any other buyer while it sells here. We can decline a listing for quality or compliance, but we do not negotiate a group’s quote downwards.

Settlements run fortnightly, directly into the group’s own bank account, and never to an individual or an intermediary. Groups may leave the marketplace at any time; listings already confirmed are fulfilled and settled before they go.

Intellectual property

The Saahvi name, wordmark, brand mark, page copy and product photography on this site belong to Saahvi Collective or are licensed to it. You may not copy, republish, scrape or use them to train automated systems without written permission.

The designs, motifs, embroidery patterns, recipes and craft techniques behind the products belong to the groups that made them. Buying a product does not transfer any right to reproduce its design commercially.

Craft traditions themselves — the Kutch embroidery stitch, the terracotta form, the pickle recipe — belong to nobody and to everybody. Nothing in these terms claims otherwise.

Availability and delays

Handmade stock is finite, and the groups are in rural areas where monsoon, harvest, festival weeks and transport disruption all affect dispatch. If a delay means your order will miss the delivery window we gave you, we will tell you as soon as we know, and offer you the choice of waiting or cancelling for a full refund.

Nothing in this section limits your right to cancel an order that has not yet been dispatched.

Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law, Saahvi’s total liability arising out of any order is limited to the amount you paid for that order. We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, loss of profit, or loss of opportunity arising from a late or missed delivery.

That limit does not apply where the law does not allow it. Nothing in these terms limits any right you have under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, or our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud.

Governing law and jurisdiction

These terms are governed by the laws of India, and the courts at Bengaluru, Karnataka have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them.

Before that, though, write to us. Complaints that normal support cannot resolve go to our grievance officer, Grievance Officer, at grievance@example.com, available Monday to Friday, 10:00–17:00 IST, who acknowledges within 48 hours and resolves within one month.

Something here that needs clarifying? Ask us and we will answer with the specifics rather than the clause number.
