About this product

Hand-spun and hand-woven khadi in a 112 cm width, priced by the metre. The slubs in the yarn are uneven by nature, which is what gives khadi its texture and what a mill cannot replicate. It is stiff when it arrives and softens into something quite different after three washes.

Looking after it

Wash the length before you cut it. Khadi shrinks, and a tailor who cuts first will leave you short.

What we check before a product is listed

Four things we do not compromise on, because a handmade product is judged on all of them.

No preservatives in food
Pickles are cured with oil and salt, not vinegar and stabilisers. Bakery is dispatched within a week of baking.
Azo-free dyes in textiles
Reactive and natural dyes only, printed and dried in shade so the colour bonds to the fibre instead of sitting on it.
Cure times are respected
Six weeks for cold-process soap, four weeks for pickle, three weeks for lemon. Shortening these is how a handmade product is made to look handmade.
Batch-tested where it matters
Honey, ghee and spices are tested for adulteration before packing, and the report is available on request.

How much should I order for a kurta?

For a standard men’s kurta, 2.5 metres; for a women’s kurta, 2.5 to 3 metres depending on size. Add half a metre if you want the pre-wash shrinkage covered.
